OPEN HOUSE CANCELLED

Based on our recent visit to Faulkner’s Island in preparation for the Open House, we encountered a large number of black flies. They cluster on individuals and they bite. This infestation is most likely the result of the dry hot weather we have had this summer. Local sailors and fishermen are also complaining about them while on their boats. Regrettably the Faulkner’s Light Brigade Open House is cancelled for 2016, since it was felt that no one would want to be on the island with the flies. We look forward to better luck in 2017.

Faulkner’s Photo Contest

At our September open house photographer buffs were invited to tour the island, shoot pictures and enter there photos in the Annual Faulkner’s Island open house contest. The weather was very cooperative and the sunset beautiful as you can see from the winning photos. Photos were submitted to the Faulkners Light Brigade Board of Directors for selection of the winners.

Faulkner’s Island Open House Paddle

From Rich Wells
I would like to thank you for a great visit to Faulkner’s Island yesterday.   The 25 kayakers from the Connecticut Sea Kayaker’s Association (ConnYak) who paddled out and back enjoyed of visit.   It was great to visit the island that so many of us enjoy paddling around. Some of our group paddled over to Goose Island and were able to see the seals. The trip back was a little bumpy, but everyone returned with smiles on their faces!
A number of the members of our group organize paddles on the weekends.    Erik Baumgartner was the organizer of this paddle.    You can find his contact information, a description of the paddle and pictures at the following MeetUp Group site

We have completed installing a live web camera on the island as well as a weather station. Hurricane Irene & Sandy have slowed the process and the weather station still needs repairs. Please consider joining our organization to preserve the island and the historic lighthouse.
