December 18th 2013 Video
Snow Day on Faulkner’s Island. A quick webcam tour of the island. This may be the first on island view of snow cover since the Coast Guard was in residence. School Bus service not expected to run on the island until it TERNS to Spring.
7:00AM, 12/11/2013 Conditions on Faulkners Island Video
Conditions on Faulkner’s Island can be harsh in Winter. This short video was taken with the webcam on the island. Clearly, the landing area is inaccessible. There is significant wave action on the island that we do not get on land. This is also a small insight into the heroic rescues by the Lighthouse keepers of shipwrecked sailors. The “Landing Area Closed to the Public” sign is not needed on days like these.

Open House Cancellation
We know that there are many disappointed members because we had to cancel the Open House on a short notice each day of the event. Rough seas (3’ to 5’ waves) made it impossible to safely get out to the island and secure the USFWS landing craft in the basin. The same applies to the Charlie Moore water taxi. Literally hundreds of hours are required by the USFWS and the FLB volunteers to make this event happen. We also spent valuable resources that can’t be recouped after cancellation. That being said, the FLB board is just as disappointed as the public due to this cancellation. The FLB answering machine was updated each morning within an hour after we had to cancel. Unfortunately, we did not have Wi Fi access at the FLB tent to send out emails to everyone about the cancellation. If there is someone out there that has both the electronics and the talent to set-up an instant cancellation scheme to all those with reservations, we would appreciate your talent and volunteering. Let’s hope we are more successful next year, and we do appreciate your understanding and continued support.
